Motorkhanas

Type of Event - Competitive
Type of Surface - Grass/Mud/Dirt - in paddocks
Form of Motorsport - Clubsport, Basic

Motorkhanas are another form of Basic motorsport that the MCC holds.
Cars are raced around cones usually in a paddock of grass or dirt/mud combination. Speeds are kept low by the use of small tight tracks. And most of the time cars drive in first gear, and occasionally second gear. Some tracks involve stopping and changing direction into reverse, which adds a whole new level of car control.
Drivers have to be very precise with their car handling skills, as gaps in between the cones are just wide enough for most cars.
Motorkhanas are great as a basic foundation form of motorsport, as the environment has a lot of room for error. And makes for a great learning environment for younger drivers wanting to gain better car control skills.
There are usually four tracks (sometimes six) set up over the course of a Motorkhana, and each competitor gets two chances to compete on each course . The fastest time from each competitor, from each run is combined to create an overall time, which counts as the official result.
Time penalties range from adding five seconds when hitting a cone, to slowest time when you complete the course incorrectly. Course times range from 15seconds up to 1-2minutes maximum.
Equipment that is required is a car, a driver and a sense of direction. As speeds are low, no helmets are required, and no modifications of the car are required. The day is fun, and everyone helps with the running of the event.
